Pantry…
Picture this: It’s 8:30 AM. A handful of early birds are already at their desks. Some came early to beat the morning rush, some want to plan their day in peace, and others are just trying to get a head start so they don’t have to work late. Then, out of nowhere, everyone stops showing up early. People are literally sitting on park benches outside the building, killing time until the exact minute their shift starts. What happened? After a little digging, we found the three culprits behind the vibe shift:
💢 The Brain Dumper
The second Colleague A spots you, they launch into a relentless, rapid-fire monologue. It’s always “The boss wants this,” and “The boss said that.” They don’t care if you’re actually listening—they just want to dump the info and consider it “delegated.”
🥹 What employees say: “I literally cannot process what they’re saying. I’ll have my noise-canceling headphones on, fully locked into a task, and they’ll just stand over me and start barking orders. They don’t even wait for me to take my headphones off. Then they walk away assuming it’s my responsibility now—without putting a single word in writing.”
💢 The “Got a Sec?” Micro-Manager
This exec loves hovering by your desk first thing in the morning with a “Quick question.” Spoiler alert: It’s never a quick question. It always ends with you getting slapped with an urgent, ad-hoc task that isn’t even your job.
🥹 What employees say: “It’s not even my department’s responsibility. But because I’m the only one at my desk early, I become the target. The worst part? They expect it done in 15 minutes and will circle back to hover over my shoulder every three minutes until it’s finished.”
💢 The Boundary-Blind Chatterbox
Colleague C has absolutely no concept of personal space or social cues. They will talk your ear off about anything and everything, completely oblivious to whether you are engaged in the conversation.
🥹 What employees say: “It doesn’t matter if I’m chewing on a bagel or aggressively typing on my laptop—they just keep talking. I tried the classic ‘getting up to refill my water’ move to break away, but they literally followed me into the breakroom to keep the monologue going.”
Now, everyone would rather sit in their cars or stand outside than step foot in the office a minute before 9:00 AM. Have you ever had a coworker ruin your morning peace? How do you protect your boundaries before the clock strikes 9:00?
