有天見Marketing同事剛從老闆房出黎，灰到成個人變左粵話殘片，同佢傾下計，原來佢同老闆開例會：
Marketing：最近收到個展覽會邀請，老闆你想唔想join?
老闆：咩價錢？
Marketing：有3個package，最平要幾萬，最貴要十幾萬，分別包左… 我地個budget 可以參加最平嗰個
老闆：我覺得最貴嗰個好d喎，你去negotiate 下
Marketing：我問過最貴嗰個最盡只可以減幾萬蚊，都超過左我地Budget
老闆：唉，教左你好多次，唔好被Budget 限制你既想像，要做得好Marketing 其實唔使錢架。我識佢地大老闆，等我同佢食個飯傾下就得架啦，你都要出去識多d人…..
最後，我地有擺booth，買左最貴個package，不過係用原價買…
之後既歲月，每當要用錢，Marketing 同事都話要慳番d，因為之前洗凸左，老闆都會話：「唔好被Budget 限制你既想像…」

One day, I ran into a Marketing colleague who had just come out of the boss’s office looking like a total wreck—grey and all! So, we chatted, and it turns out they had a regular meeting with the boss:
Marketing: “We just got an invitation for a trade show. Do you want to join?”
Boss: “What’s the cost?”
Marketing: “There are three packages. The cheapest is a few tens of thousands, and the most expensive is around a hundred thousand. They come with… Our budget can only cover the cheapest one.”
Boss: “I think the most expensive one is better. Go negotiate!”
Marketing: “I asked about the most expensive package, and the best they could do is take off a few thousand, which is still over our budget.”
Boss: “Ugh, I’ve told you many times, don’t let the budget limit your imagination! To do good marketing, you actually don’t need money. I know their big boss, so I can just have dinner with him and we’ll be fine. You need to get out there and meet more people…”
In the end, we ended up with a booth and purchased the most expensive package—but at full price.
For the rest of that year, every time we had to spend money, my Marketing colleague would say we needed to save up again because we had blown the budget before. And the boss? He would chime in with, “Don’t let the budget limit your imagination…”
As someone who’s been a master of none through different IT companies, I’ve seen all kinds of things—wacky stories, unique characters, and even some rare gems.
